GOES Derived Instability Limitations

Interrogating the warm sector across the South Dakota/Minnesota into southeastern North Dakota. GOES derived instability is ~1000 J/Kg lower than model derived surface based instability. However, the placement and plume of instability is in the proper location. Visible imagery reveals an increasingly agitated cumulus field along the western edge of the strongest surface based CAPE axis. This is also where low level winds are converging ahead of the broader surface trough/850mb trough swinging across the Dakotas.
