Starting the shift over the Northern High Plains, I loaded a 4-panel with AllSkyLAP Sfc-900mb PWAT (top left), 900-700mb PWAT (top right), 700-300mb PWAT (bottom left) and Layer PWAT (bottom right) at ~ 1800Z to determine which levels were contributing to the dry air moving into the western Dakotas from the W-SW. While there is some dry air moving in in the lower levels, the biggest contribution appears to be in the 700-300mb layer. The fact that moist and dry areas can be observed in the different layers is definitely helpful.
Also, again today the AllSkyLAP Layer PWAT values compare very favorably to what is shown on SPC's Hourly Mesoscale Analysis webpage, with PWAT maxes, mins and gradients in very similar locations. I have included a snapshot of the 18Z PWAT product from SPC's Hourly Mesoscale Analysis site for comparison.
