When loading up the NUCAPS plan view there are A LOT of options and levels to load. If you select 1000mb level, you will get very little data, which makes sense considering the surface across the central US is over 1000mb.
I noticed when selecting the layers in the VOLUME browser, make sure you select a level above 1000mb. The most useful tended to be the 925mb and 850mb level. Above 700 was basically pointless There is also no difference between the pressure planes and also the misc "gridded NUCAPS" planes. There are a lot of options to select and that might be confusing the operational forecaster.
When evaluating the data... I've noticed the CAPE looks to be severely underestimated. About 1,000 to 2,000 J/kg less compared to what is shown on the hi-res models and analysis.
Finally... there should have been a good sample in SE ND, but for some reason the NUCAPS sounding data was non-existent in this region. It would be nice to figure out why.
