ProbSevere Storm Clustering
We have had numerous thunderstorms popping up over the SJT CWA over the past few hours. We are seeing clusters of storms developing, which seem to be confusing the ProbSevere algorith. There have been several instances where the ProbSevere is grouping multiple discrete thunderstorm cores together as one storm. Is this expected behavior?

As discussed with the forecaster, the ProbSevere identification algorithm is complex and may combine small cores in close proximity to one another, especially if the 'range of reflectivity is not that large connecting the cores. The developers will work to make the identification and tracking algorithm more 'human-like' in the future, but there will always be tradeoffs and shortcomings to automated storm tracking.
