NUCAPS Comparison with KOUN Sounding

A NUCAPS sounding from 20Z near KOUN compared favorably to the 18Z KOUN supplemental radiosonde sounding.

In comparison, here is the 20Z NUCAPS sounding from approximately the same location (with the surface temp and dewpoint altered to match METAR observations).

The NUCAPS sounding is slightly smoothed compared to the radiosonde sounding. For instance, the capping inversion at around 750 mb is not really resolved. However, overall, the NUCAPS sounding captures the general atmospheric structure quite well and is a useful supplemental source of information to the radiosonde sounding.
