GOES-16 ABI Imagery and products (Imagery/Derived/Channel

Hard to tell between different shades of green
on the air mass product…but the product could be useful on the synoptic scale,
could easily identify cold air masses

Help sheets for the RGBs could be a huge benefit

Adjusted the color table for precipitable water
products, colors were all over the place

Missing data from the derived products was
frustrating

Really like the 1 minute data, but the
differences between it and the 2.5 minute are subtle. Could live with 2.5 minutes

1 minute data does give some lead time on
storms, helps with the radar in conjunction

o
Anvil strikes were interesting to see, a whole
county ahead of the storm. Useful for
educating the public on the distances strikes occur from the storm

Like the interpolated data, like the combined
product

Maybe a color table for every 0.5 standard
deviation would be useful

Want to see increases/decreases in trend

Almost felt you could warn on a storm based upon
lightning if radar coverage was low

Compared 20Z special sounding to the
experimental and operational…caught onto cap weakening and breaking

Latency of data…became outdated
o
Gridded data appeared a lot different from SPC

For those at without an upper air site nearby,
it’s nice to pull up and know you’ve got some data

ProbSevere
o
ProbTor…saw it go from 80% to 30% back to 80%
over a few scans, but azimuthal shear didn’t really change…lead me to ignore
the jumps
o
ProbSevere did much better with single storms
versus when there were several
