CIMMS Precipitable Water Image Confirms Dryline Presence and Convective Focus

The low to mid level channels of CIMMS Precipitable Water values show a well defined gradient for convective focus with the Layer Precipitable Water values depicting the tighest portion of the gradient in the dry-line region.  Surface wind patterns confirm low level winds showing a more southeasterly component over southern Kansas.

NUCAPS depicted precipitable water values on either side of the dryline in South Central KS revealed conistency within 5 percent on the dry side and errors of around 15 to 20 percent in the adjacent moist sector.  Due to time constraints, no modifications were made to the NUCAPS soundings, and speculation is that the two products could be in even closer agreement if the dewpoints in the moist sector were manually adusted upwards to reflect surface observations.
