Forecaster feedback from daily debrief:
GOES-R LAP
- Similar to previous days, convection , in midland, initiated off tightest gradients in all parameters. That’s where convection was all day, on line that formed ahead of CF
- Further south near NM border, n-s oriented gradient.
- Look at it early in the day and have a good idea where your attention would be focused.
NUCAPS
- In first two days ll seemed to be too cool, but today, several instances where it was a little warmer. Made adjustments and it actually looked good, reasonable cape.
- Have found utility
GOES-R CI
- In san Antonio, it was tough to use, really congested cu fields, it was having trouble picking up on one specific cloud, it groups stuff together, washes out the signal (when many cu clustered together creating one object). Sometimes, county-wide objects, washing out signal – when you have pulsey environment, don’t get clear signal
- Early in day when it first started signaling, that’s when we started seeing development.
- Most of higher detection's had showers associated with them
- In midland, worked early in the day before thick cirrus
- First cell of the day, 70s., this was only one wit higher probs
ProbSevere
- A lot of pulsey, ordinary cells, good situational awareness tool, finally keyed on a cell, and it did go severe for a little. 57% to 74%. Caught your eye after a while of nothing. No reports, but probably severe for a but
- In midland with e-w line, did a phenomenal job in picking up on cells hat I eventually warned on, other cells stayed low. Got as high as 99%
- Amped up at right time when considering a warning; with just CTC, sometimes lead time was way too much
- When we moved to Huntsville, mostly linear so wasn’t helping too much.
- Cant make contours blink in awips
- Echo tops, ll rotation from mrms
SRSOR
- In midland, about time we started, it was clearing up south of CF; one min showed that well, shortly after that, convection started to form. Couldn’t see this process in the routine imagery
- This is something I would show on air.
- Congested cu field, you could see individual towering cu, and monitor them, and then see blowoff of tops. With 15 min, you lose the connection between which cloud is what later on
- General, great pr, to show people, get people interesting, how cool is this!
Lightning jump
- Houston pulse environment, would get 4-6 sigma jumps
- By the time you moved attention to storms, they were already collapsing.
- Had a 12 jump when two storms merged
PGLM
- I prefer the 1-min over 6 min summation, having it in own panel
- I did change the color curve to lma 1, showed low gradients better, contrast was better
- We both preferred to view this stand-alone, as opposed to overlay
- I used it as a guide to substantiate what we’re seeing in other guidance
